Aki meets Uta no Prince-sama

Remember when this blog was first started solely for sharing the artistic works of Aki ( あき )? Well, it seems I’ve forgotten that, lol. My apologies to those wanting some more pictures of Angel’s Doubt, I’m really behind! The fact that the manga is on indefinite hiatus put a damper on things…

Anyways!! I just came across this today, and felt like sharing~

Uta no Prince-sama Anthology!

When I saw it, I did a double take, thinking their expressions looked awfully familiar. Then I noticed the watercolor-style and clicked to read the cover. Sure enough it says, “COVER あき” in really small print. Kya~~~! Aki-sensei drew Otoya and Masato~!!! and now Natsuki is worth looking at! πŸ˜„

Even though it appears she didn’t write a story for the book, I think the other boys are featured on a color page within the book. There is also this inside:

I’d like to see Syo-kun’s color picture. x3

Here is the cover without the outer sleeve:

Speaking of Uta no Prince-sama, this arrived in my mail yesterday!

otoya ittoki uta no prince atler 1/8
8D ~!!!
Isn’t Otoya just great?! I actually liked this figure before knowing much about Utapuri. (I’ve since watched the anime out of obligation. xD I liked it~) I was sold on this figure when I saw he looked good from all angles. His design and pose is really well-balanced.

otoya ittoki uta no prince alter 1/8
This is actually my first 1/8 scale! I’ve seen plenty up close before at a friend’s, but I usually go for trading figures. I surmised a figure from Alter would be a good choice.

Otoya and Tokiya’s 1/8 are being reissued for release this December, so get one while you can~! I’m really looking forward to some of the other boys that were announced for release too. : ]

Utahime Drama CD arrived!

Merry Christmas to me~ Merry Christmas to me~~~!

My stuff arrived in the mail two days ago, but today I finally opened the box! After getting through those blasted packing peanuts, I found this:

utahime drama cd

-some kind of small collectible card thing (we’ll talk about that some other time), a postcard, and the back of the cd. Oh~ it’s lovely still in its shrink wrap, finally something that’s brand new! But I soon peeled it off to take snapshots of the items (still no scanner, so that’ll have to wait). I love all the pictures of Maria, she’s one of my favorite Aki characters.

Just to recap, this is the front cover of the CD.

When I opened it up I was met this cute image:

utahime drama cd booklet
Aww~!!! How adorable~! Simply precious.

utahime drama cd

Thomas here, during one of the more bittersweet parts of the story. The white CD is actually the bonus disc. There’s two discs, and the plastic thing holding them back to back flips like a page. When you take that into account, it’s pretty cool how the images are on the discs are in reverse.

utahime drama cd disc
Perhaps one side is the land of the living, while the other is a view from the land of the dead…

The inside of the booklet was pretty exciting. More color images and stuff. Like… a certain character I’ve never seen in color:

utahime drama cd booklet emperor

Like seriously! I have been wanting to see that image of the Emperor in color so badly! It’s a snippet from the image on the first pages of the manga. They seem to only be in color in the original magazine, back when it was first printed years and years ago. Believe me, I’ve tried SO hard to find out what issues it ran in, but it’s just too old. So to have the best piece of the missing color pages here and now, it’s like… wow!

Also, this was a surprise:

utahime drama cd booklet kain

Kain is smiling… so brightly… I never expected to see that.

I listened to the drama cd for a bit while I type this, and I gotta say, I love it! Ok, so the majority of the time I don’t know what they are saying, but I can still tell what’s going on since I know the story. Yeah, its like a radio show or an anime without the… uh, animation. It’s nice hearing what the characters sound like, and finally knowing how to say Kain’s name.

Have any of you listened to the cd? Thoughts? :3 If you love Utahime, I recommend getting a copy. It’s been a lovely experience. ❀

Aki Collection 3

Today I’m finally uploading the last of this batch of scans. The prize and joy of my collection will finally be revealed, as well as the long story of hunting it down. First though, another scan of Force in his red suit.

I like this postcard because you get to see more of the drawing. (Gotta love ‘dem legs xD). As you can see from the grain in the image, this is not nearly as nice a print as the bromide. It also looks a little more washed out, but it looks fine for a simple postcard.

postcard force

Now on to my favorite part. The hunt for the unseen image!

I can’t recall what website I was at exactly, since this was a few years ago, but it was all in Japanese and I ended up there from surfing one of Libre’s official sites. I used the unreliable Google Translate to give me an idea what the articles were about. I saw a blurry thumbnail of an image that looked very much like Force and Riku, and it seemed to say something about contest winners having access to the image.

blurry

“Ooohh?!?!? What is this?” Gasp! “Why are they so close? Huh huh huh?! I need this image!”
Try as I might, I didn’t get any results searching the net, and had to just wait and keep my eyes open.

Eventually some things popped up on Yahoo!Japan Auction. Like this-

magazine

and this, hidden in number 12-

booklet

I was like, “are you kidding me?! that’s all I get after a couple years?” I debated buying the little booklet, and tried researching what its contents were. I was highly doubtful there were any color images inside, probably just some artist notes or something. I did find a blog entry of someone that I think bought the book, but alas it was in Japanese and didn’t make any sense.

Well, come to the present and another, beautiful, listing came up.
It was awhile before it finally shipped its way to me.

*drumroll*

Aa~~h, I am finally at peace.

So that’s it for scans for now. I will be making an effort to take some snapshots of the color pages found within Kurofune ZERO, so check back sometime for that. :]

Aki collection 2

So it’s round two for some scans. It’s been awhile, but I first saw these things at auction way back when I was starting to collect issues of Kurofune ZERO. Ah yes, I remember now. I was trying to get the magazine because I was obsessed with Angel’s Doubt after buying the memopad, and that was the only way for me to “read” it. Later I discovered Storm in Heaven was doing scanlations of some of the comics in Kurofune, which was lucky for me~ yay translations~

Here we have some bookmarks:

bookmark Force

bookmark Eiri

Yes, I know, we’ve seen this drawing only like, a hundred times, but these bookmarks are pretty cool. They’re printed on watercolor paper. It’s a really cool effect; the texture of paper really brings out the fluid colors and kind of fools you into thinking it’s not a reprint but a firsthand watercolor. Athough, I think the scanner just kind of makes the image look bumpy, lol.

Next are some kind of business cards:

card Force

card Eiri

They’re cute, and came with the bookmarks. Let’s see, I think I have this drawing like, 5 times now? 1)memopad 2)bookmarks 3)cards 4)magazine cover 5)manga volume 1 color insert. Yeah, I think I’m set.

Lastly, Kain has come to steal the show again:

Utahime postcard

This is my treasure. ❀ *squeals!* I still get excited about this one. I had a hard time getting it though! The listing I wanted to bid on blocked me since I was using a deputy service. Darn Japan and it’s lack of overseas shipping. Another listing came up, but I ended up in a bid war, boo~ Oh well. REVEL IN THE BEAUTIFUL COLOR.

Scanlations of the Japanese volume of Utahime had this image all in green, so I’m assuming it was on one of the book covers under the full color dust-cover. DMP’s english-language release doesn’t have this image at all.
…Did I mention that this image is totally awesome IN COLOR?! xD

Oh yeah, and this is the back of the postcard:

back of postcard

D’aww! Isn’t Riku just the cutest?

And on that note, I conclude this entry. Stay tuned~!

Aki collection 1

So I finally got some things scanned in from my collection of Aki’s artwork.Β Part one here is of some things that have been already seen, so I decided to just do my best to give everyone a quality look at the items. The more exciting stuff will be up soon after I edit the raws. I scanned these things at 1200 dpi so the original files are huge. Here are the cropped versions:

Bromide and Pin Set

First up is the lovely bromide and pin set from Angel’s Doubt. It’s a bit blurry since it doesn’t lay perfectly flat, maybe I’ll try again with a camera if requested. The set is very elegant, and maybe a bit gaudy, but that’s Force for you. I love how they added feathers to the pin to represent his nickname, the Bird of Paradise.

Bromide

This bromide is really high quality, so it scanned very nicely. It’s on a glossy photo paper and the color is just so vivid. The photo itself is about 5×3.5 in.

Backside of bromide

And here is the ever exciting barcode. The paper folds around to make this flap on the back with some Japanese text. Any idea what it says?

memopad

This memopad I saw for sale online is what got me interested in Angel’s Doubt and Aki. It took forever for me to find out what series it was part of though since the site just called it “Tenshi no Uso memopad” and didn’t give any detail that this was even from a story. It didn’t help there was less information on Aki back then. After a couple tries in picking the right search terms, I finally got a lead on the wonderful artist that drew it.

back of memopad

This little sticker is on the back of the plastic sleeve that covers the memopad. Oh, I suppose I should explain what this pad is- it’s about 8×6 in. has 35 sheets of paper with this image printed on them. It’s pretty sturdy and meant to be used as a mousepad in conjunction with being a notepad for quick memos. Whenever I look at it I get the urge to peel one off for no reason (no! don’t degrade it! I tell myself.) And seriously, look at how detailed this darn barcode is!

memopad barcode

And the last entry for this post is one for Utahime. I happened upon this by chance when I was buying a couple of volumes for Angel’s Doubt and Hanamatsuri at auction. Lucky! I thought, since I enjoyed the english release of Utahime a lot.

Utahime

…but, what is it? And how did anyone acquire it in the first place? Is it an advertisement?

Well that concludes part one, stay tuned for some more scans and ramblings on them. Oh, and if you want some bigger versions of the images above you can find them on my photobucket here.
